Four new feature winners in 2022 highlighted Wilmot Raceway's Saturday, May 28 Memorial Day Holiday Weekend Family Night.
Allen Hafford of Beach Park, IL captured the 20-lap AutoMeter/Brewington Electric Wisconsin WingLESS Sprints main. Hafford overtook early race pace setter Tim Cox of Park City, IL six laps from the finish for the win. Cox came across second. Burlington's Mike Sullivan third. Jimmy Sivia of Winthrop Harbor, IL fourth. Bristol's Chris Klemko fifth.
Genoa City's Mike Simons made it two for two for the Simons family thus far this season in the modifieds 20-lap features. The elder Simons scored the victory over his brother, Nick, who won the main three weeks earlier. Mike Simons took the checkered ahead of his younger brother, Nick, who finished runner-up. Milwaukee's David Wirth was third. Union Grove's Terry Kiedrowski fourth. Bristol's John Dost fifth.
Salem's James Jaime scored a career first victory in a hotly contested 20-lap street stock main. Jaime sifted through lapped traffic during the final half of the feature to score the victory. Slinger's Brian Gundrum was second. Rob Maule of Hebron, IL came back after a flat tire forced him to restart at the rear to finish third. David Jones of North Chicago, IL was fourth. Cody Erickson of Algonquin, IL fifth.
In time trials, Maule eclipsed his own street stocks track record with a :17.883 seconds clocking for one lap. Maule's former mark was :18.172 seconds which he set August 16, 2019.
John Cole of McHenry, IL, 2020 Wilmot Champion, chalked up his first Bandit 4-Cylinder Stock Car feature win of the 2022 season. Cole was in the right place at right time as Salem's Chris Abel, who had been leading, had his trunk lid break off and land on the track bringing out a caution three laps from the finish. Cole, who was in second at the time, took over the point with Abel sent to the rear of the field on the restart.
Cole scored the win with Elkhorn's Micah Belling coming across second. Scott Ellis of Lake Villa, IL, 2021 Wilmot Champion, third. Salem's Ryan Johnson fourth. Pleasant Prairie's Steve Ellis, Scott's Dad, fifth.
Wilmot Raceway's one-third mile clay oval located on the Kenosha County Fairgrounds resumes action with an all sprint car spectacular on Saturday, June 4. The traveling Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association(IRA) 410 Winged Outlaw Sprints return to their original home track for the first time in 2022. A combined show with the All Stars on May 20 was cancelled by rain.
Brewington Electric/AutoMeter Wisconsin WingLESS Sprints and IRA Lightning Sprints are on the program.
Grandstands open at 5 p.m. with on track activity slated for 5:45 p.m., and racing to follow.
Adult grandstand admission is $25.00 for ages 12 and older, $5.00 ages 7-11, ages 6 & under admitted free.
Pits open at 3 p.m. with all pit passes $30.00.
