"The drivers in this wingLESS class are great, the fans are great, everything about Wilmot Raceway is awesome," said Jimmy Kouba of Byron, Minnesota following his first 20-lap Meyer Valves & Vacs wingLESS Sprint Series presented by the IRA feature win. "Jordan Mattson ran awesome. It was great racing with him. This all makes the five and one-half hour one-way trip from home worth it."
Mattson and Jimmy Kouba ran wheel to wheel for several laps, exchanging the lead numerous times as the checkered flag neared. Jimmy Kouba ended up with the victory by less than a couple car lengths over Milwaukee's Mattson. Allen Hafford of Beach Park, Illinois was third. Jake Kouba of Minneapolis, Minnesota, son of the winner, came across fourth. Cottage Grove's Doug Schenck, defending champion, came back to finish fifth. Schenck's top five was after having rolled his car on its side in qualifying and in the second heat race, both times in incidents when he was an innocent victim getting collected by other cars.
