Inside Line Promotions – WILMOT, Wis. (Aug. 2, 2016) – Jason Sides scored two top-10 finishes last week during World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series competition.
The action began a week ago Tuesday at Ohsweken Speedway in Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada, for the Six Nations Showdown.
“We shot ourselves in the foot,” he said. “We changed motors to go there and ran a motor we haven’t run before. It was a little different combination and we had too much gear in it. Once we figured that out we were a lot better.”
Sides qualified 17th quickest and after making a change he maneuvered from sixth to third place in a heat race to line up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.
“In the feature I thought we were going to be really good,” he said. “The track got pretty slick pretty quick. We weren’t tight enough. Some of the other guys could run right through the middle. We were good early for eight or 10 laps and then it went away. Late in the race we went up top and seemed to be pretty good up there.”
Sides ended with a 10th-place result.
Friday’s event at Hartford Speedway in Hartford, Mich., rained out midway through the event with Sides slated to start third in the dash.
The weekend concluded on Saturday at Wilmot Raceway for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Badger 40.
“We qualified decent and ran second to Joey (Saldana) in the heat race,” he said. “We made a few changes for the dash. We got the lead and I was holding my own. All of a sudden here comes (David) Gravel around the top. He was a lot better than everybody there.”
Sides finished second in the dash after he had timed in eighth quickest during qualifying and placed second in a heat race.
“I think everyone learned from watching him and got better for the feature,” he said. “I tried to continue running the bottom and it went away after 15 to 20 laps. We were set up for the bottom, but the top had so much more momentum.
“I ran second for the first six or eight laps and then (Donny) Schatz got by us. I ran third for another six or eight laps. The restarts were what hurt us. I ran fourth for a long time. Again on a restart (Brad) Sweet got by and when he did that here comes (Daryn) Pittman. It seemed like on the restarts we weren’t very good.”
Sides capped the night with an eighth-place finish.
He will return to action this Friday and Saturday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., for the Ironman 55 with the World of Outlaws.
