20 cars signed in for action with the Wisconsin wingLESS Series presented by the IRA on a beautiful Sunday in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin at Angell Park Speedway. Qualifying saw series point leader Jordan Mattson set quick time over Tim Cox. Allen Hafford would time in 3rd with Chris Klemko in 4th and Derek Crane in 5th.
Heat Race 1 saw Jimmy Sivia take the early lead in his 91s machine, with just a handful of laps left veteran driver Doug Schenck would maneuver his Club LaMark sponsored machine around Sivia. Schenck would pick up the heat race win over Sivia. Jordan Mattson came home in 3rd ahead of Nathan Crane. Ryan Zelski would cross in 5th.
Heat Race 2 saw third starting Jimmy Kouba quickly take the lead. Kouba would lead all 10 laps in route to the heat race victory. Derek Crane would bring his 91 home in 2nd over Scott Grissom. Tim Cox would finish in 4th in his Don's Auto machine and Randy Stanford would round out the top 5.
Heat Race 3 would see rookie driver Rod Colburn utilize his pole starting position to get the early lead. Colburn would hold the lead all the way to the drop of the Checkered. Craig Campton would bring his Final Effort Racing car home in 2nd followed by Allen Hafford. Chris Klemko brought his 70 machine home in 4th and James Walldan was 5th.
A main action saw the 7s of Campton lead lap 1, but Tim Cox quickly worked around Campton to take the lead. While Cox was out front, Nathan Crane had worked his 97 machine into the 2nd position and caught Cox’s 48 machine. Crane would get around Cox and lead the next half dozen laps. With just 7 laps to go Doug Schenck powered by Crane to take the lead. Schenck started racing at Angell Park 41 years ago at just 18 in a midget. After years of racing the midget he moved on to MSA 360 racing before running with the WingLESS Series. In all 3 cars he has finished 2nd at the historic speedway but was never able to claim a victory. The crowd sat on the edge of their seats as the man who had tried for so long to win at Angell Park worked through lapped traffic with Tim Cox reeling him in. As they took the white flag Schenck held a small lead over Cox, as the cars entered turn 3 Schenck went to the cushion and Cox went low under the Green and Black 71. As they exited turn 4 and crossed the start/finish line Schenck was victorious over Cox. Jimmy Kouba finished in 3rd with Jordan Mattson and Allen Hafford rounded out the top 5. In victory lane Schenck climbed out of the car to a thunderous applause from the faithful Angell Park fans who have watched him try for so long to win at the historic 1/3rd mile oval.
