PETERSEN MEDIA: Things are clicking for Chapin, IL driver Paul Nienhiser. Scoring a pair of wins over Memorial Day Weekend, Nienhiser stayed hot this past weekend as he flirted with victory again Thursday night at Macon before scoring his third win in five races on Friday night in Lincoln, IL.
“It was a really good weekend for our team,” Nienhiser said. “I wish I wouldn’t have made a mistake in traffic on Thursday night, but we were able to win Friday and ran decent with the Outlaws on Saturday.”
Lining up in the second row of his heat race at Macon on Thursday night, Nienhiser would make some early moves high atop the speedway before dipping low with a couple to go to grab the win and earn high point honors for the night.
Pulling the six in the redraw, Nienhiser continued to put his right-rear on the fence as he carved his way forward into second. As the leaders got into traffic, Nienhiser continued to flex his muscle aboard the CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil/Mason Sound/Innovative Design machine, as he was able to forge ahead into the race lead.
Working through traffic, Nienhiser would close in on a slower car and actually make contact to his competitors left rear and he would spin to a stop giving up a straight away lead. With front end damage, Nienhiser would retired to the pit area for the night.
Putting a tough ending behind him, Nienhiser and company traveled to Lincoln, IL on Friday night for more MOWA action where he would look to duplicate success from 2017.
Lining up fourth in his heat race, Nienhiser would make a big move on the outside of the speedway when the green flag dropped as he would grab the lead and lead flag to flag and qualify for the redraw.
Drawing the coveted one pill in the draw, Nienhiser would line his machine up on the pole for the feature event. With the top the preferred line on this night, Nienhiser told him self to run consistent smooth laps as he paced the field.
Despite a handful of cautions, Nienhiser would never seriously be challenged on this night as he simply dominated the race and pocketed his third feature event win of the season, which was his third win in his last five starts.
Saturday night saw the team travel to Wilmot, WI to take on the World of Outlaws for the ‘Badger 40’.
Getting off to a slow start, Nienhiser would time the Bradshaw Custom Pumping/Wessler Bros. Agency/Bob Hawks Auto Body entry in 23rd quickest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up eighth in his heat race, Nienhiser would start the process of digging out of his hole as he would work his way up to fourth. Getting tight in the race’s closing laps he would slip back to sixth, but on this night that was good enough to move him into the 40-lap feature event.
Following a rainstorm that delayed the program, Nienhiser would take the green flag from the 17th starting position on a locked down, hooked up racing surface. Doing all he could on the quick surface, Nienhiser would race his way up to 12th at one point in the feature event, but a fast paced Brent Marks would soon put him a lap down.
Once going a lap down, Nienhiser made the decision to pull of the racing surface and call it a night, as he would be scored 17th on the official rundown.
“My only complaint about our weekend was my mistake on Thursday night,” Nienhiser said. “Other than that I really have to thank my crew for continuing to work hard and give me an awesome car to drive. We have a big week with the World of Outlaws this week so I am focused on making sure we are the best each time we roll out.”
Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Littleton Storm & Timber, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, and Steve Thomas Racing for their continued support.
