The World of Outlaws is the premier winged sprint car series in the world, featuring the world class drivers. Beginning in 1978, the World of Outlaws tour invades racetracks and thrills fans in 23 different states while sanctioning events at some of the most famous dirt racing facilities in the world. In addition, the Outlaws will be racing for nearly $6 million in purses and other prize money between the season opener at Volusia Speedway Park and the finale at the inaugural Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
Knoxville Raceway is the third largest outdoor stadium in Iowa. The facility is famous with race fans around the planet for being the “Sprint Car Capital of the World.” The track has hosted races nearly every Saturday night from April through September since 1954 on what is the Marion County fairgrounds.
This year, now at the age of 14, Carson started out with an indoor race in Kansas City and will be racing the 600cc Micro in Waverly, Nebraska, on Sunday nights at Wavelink Raceway Park. According to his father, if Carson’s grades stay up and he keeps doing well behind the seat of a micro, you might just see the young racer piloting a 305 Winged Sprint Car later in the year. Those are the steps a young racer needs to take, and so far, his dream of becoming a professional driver in the ranks of Indy Cars is getting closer and closer.
Having a World of Outlaw Sprint Car driver as a father, it’s not too hard to figure out what Austin is trying to do. Austin started racing in a go-kart at the young age of eleven at an indoor track in Waterloo, IA and even raced a few shows at the dirt track in Newton. With his father Terry being gone most of the summer it was hard for young Austin to get much racing in. The indoor venues were nice because of the simple fact that they were during the winter season and it was easier for the entire family to be a part of Austin’s karting career. Austin was no slouch behind the wheel of the kart as he won nearly 30% of the races he entered in.
