The Wilmot Raceway concluded yet another season and did it with their traditional WDLMA Late Model Special which featured season championships in the Don’s Auto & Machine Modifieds, and R.A. Adams Enterprises / Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks. Solid car counts including a few new ones were on hand to add some spark to the evening. And after some great racing and when the final checkerd flag waved, we crowned a new Street Stock Champ, and a past champion earned a 2nd title in Mod class.
Russ Scheffler continued his domination of the WDLMA while taking the $1000 top prize at Wilmot’s annual Late Model finale. Following the veteran was Tim Buhler, past Wilmot Mod winner Mitch McGrath in a 2nd Scheffler car, Rick Scheffler in a 3rd Scheffler team car, and with Jim Schmidt rounding out the top five of the sixteen car field.
Pat Rossman entered the Street Stock event in 2nd place in the point chase and did all he could to do to try and earn his second championship by winning the season finale, however Charlie Pinkalla came home second and earned enough points to claim his first Wilmot Raceway Street Stock championship. These two drivers (Pinkalla & Rossman) and teams put on a great season long duel, and did it with class. Gerry Stollenwerk continued his second half strength by coming home third in the SS feature with Brad Norgaard, and Mark Baker completing a very fast top five. Ronnie Mink, Dustin Richards, Brandon Mertes, John Jansen, and John Maki rounded out the top ten in a very competitive steet stock class, one Wilmot Raceway feels is the best in the state!
Chris Carlson, the 2011 Wilmot Raceway Modified Champion, also did what he had to do to insure himself of regaining the Modified throne, and he did it the way all champion’s prefer, as Chris claimed the feature win and championship. Jason Hyerdall came into the event in a position to challenge for the title, but things didn’t quite go so well for the division runnerup as he was credited with a 13th pace finish in the season finale. Wade Steinmann would chase Carlson to checkerd in a rare Wilmot start, with Mike Simons who really came on strong in recent weeks coming home third. Traveler Randy Markuardt Jr and Jimmy Morrison rounded out a very solid top five. Nice guy Mike Conn, Marc Caswell, Steve Mueller, Josh Heinze, and Scott Barnhorst completed the top ten.
The final points will be posted soon!
Thanks to all the teams, fans, and sponsors for supporting yet another season of racing at the Kenosha County Fair’s Wilmot Raceway. We really do truly appreciate it. We’re all ready working on 2014, and hoping to make it even better!
